How We Made This Segment

After I finished film school in upstate New York, I started working for a visual effects company in 1995 called Banned From The Ranch. My dream is to make films therefore I always have some side projects.

One of my friends came up to me and asked me to make a music video, but he had no money for it. He had only an old little Sony miniDV cam. He asked if I could use it? So, I said sure. We set up a green screen in the patio of his apartment, which we hung from the top, and I asked our singer to lie on her stomach on a table we setup. Her upper body stood out enough so that the table did not block her from her back to her head. I set a little camera under her head and in between I placed a piece of glass. She then looked into the camera below her face. As my friend played back the music, another started to pour water over her head from the back. The water ran through her face from behind her head then landed on the glass before it hit the camera. The music was played back in reverse as she lip-synched backwards. I then reversed the shot when I edited the video. The song is about a girl who has crush on a guy who doesn’t love her back. So I made a kind of back-story of my own to put the footage together. In my own story she is dead in a swimming pool by the guy behind the fence. I put a flower as her joy to love, and the butterfly is her point of view of this guy who is flirting with her. But in this video a little after the middle, the butterfly comes into the frame but never lands on the flower. That symbolizes that he was there just to tease, nothing more. And the last freeze frame was her death face. I hope you enjoy this video. Thank you for your time =)
