How We Made This Segment
Making an independent film is usually a recipe for disaster: long
hours, low budgets, cranky crews, impossible shooting schedules, amateur directors --
all those awful ingredients so many of us know all too well. But Jim Isler's
spot on production on the making of UP TO THE ROOF, a 17 minute festival
short produced in NYC, is a narrative that not only captures the
naivete of first time filmmakers but also the sheer joy of producing and
finally... finally getting that chance to make a movie on your own.
Refreshing in its innocence, THE MAKING OF UP TO THE ROOF is a better
story than the film it documents; it shows how much fun the process can be
if you truly let it. It's the story of struggling actors, producers, and other
wannabes, honing their craft, making mistakes along the way, and coming out
better for it in the end.
