How We Made This

FLEWNT, a muti-part documentary, was made with a Sony HVR-A1U 1080i HDV Camera, a Sennheiser E825S Handheld Mic, a Sennheiser ME66 Shotgun Mic, and a K-tec boom pole provided by SmogTV's sponsor, Bandpro. We shot it on a Sunday in March, 2008. We thought we had our ending, but found the subject in our common yard occupying himself in a way that required us to shoot a new ending in early April. The subject is a friend who lives next door to me, and whom I've watched at work many times, and became fascinated by his process. Mace Bailey (my roommate) did the sound recording, which was the wired boom and a lav mic during the latter part of the day. Juri Koll produced/directed, shot and edited the doc. The out of pocket cost was 2 videotapes, about $14. It was edited on a MacBook Pro laptop and a G Raid drive that happened to have extra space on it, using Final Cut Studio 6.0.
As you can see, the artist uses his inspiration to provide the proper materials, whether he finds them, or is given them. His only investment is in cans of paint, which he often recycles into the artwork itself.
